Artist Bio

Matty Furious is a pioneer. One of the artists of the "early days". His artistic pieces have accompanied the growth of the crypto-art ecosystem from the birth of SuperRare to the present day. But he is not only an OG. As he describes himself, Matty Furious is a "crytpo weirdo". His interest in the early internet era also seems to have left an indelible mark on his construction as an artist in such a way that today his style is distinguished from the rest of the styles we encounter on a daily basis by the use of a "web 1.0" aesthetic of graphic and compositional characteristics with which we can all nostalgically empathize, with a hint of primitivism but of enormous technical category. And even above these characteristics, there are two very attractive properties of his artistic profile: his "outsider" condition (which is also aesthetic) and his cynicism, which is conceptual and can be seen in the critical nature of his works.

And then we come to the universe of his pieces that dialogues perfectly well with the crypto-artistic underworld. An offer of shameless exposure and without any judgment of certain ridiculousness of the human condition, of certain grotesques, with a hint of citric humor but on a visual configuration that puts us as spectators in front of something new and different.

A wide conceptual arc that goes from his work "Vegas", which connects us with the overexposure of advertising banners of virtual casinos in the 2000s, to his more futuristic or dystopian pieces such as "Iris-6" or "Package Pirates" (all available in SuperRare's secondary market) where there are usually contrasting elements of immersive advanced technology and certain misery on the periphery.

Matty is a jewel of one of the most particular artists of the crypto scene, which offers a unique visual proposal for its aesthetics (each work looks like a virtual scene seen through glasses that give live shape to the matter) and high conceptual flight. An artist whose works are already in the hands of dozens of collectors and it shows why.

Matty’s interest in early 1.0 Internet, British urban music, and cynicism leads to his current NFT work, bespoke and critical with a Web 1.0 primitivism that marks him not only as an outsider artist but as a “crypto weirdo"

Meeting the Artist

??: Where are you from and are you currently residing there?

MF: I'm from the Midlands in the UK, Or as I like to call it, "The Bits"

??: At what point in your life did you recognize yourself as an artist.

MF: I can't really remember an exact point, but I've always been messing around with computer graphics and programs like Photoshop since I was VERY young, probably about 8.

??: When and how did you get involved with cryptoart?

MF: I remember first seeing an AI GAN piece selling in Christie's auction roughly around 2018. It sold for half a million, My first thought was "I can do that" So I googled about GAN and digital art, then I stumbled across SuperRare, back in its infancy. I was one of the first bunch of Artists on there.

??: How do you get inspired to create stuff?

MF: There is never really a specific thing I go for when I create stuff, I don't usually plan out what I'm going to do, It's hard to explain but I am influenced by life around me and thoughts of the future, not to get too phylisophical but I enjoy making people who see my art say "What the fuck is this?"

??: What do you do when you are not making art?

MF: I play Video games, watch old Sci-fi movies and like window-shopping cars that are financial money pits.
